Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Academy Takes a Loss

Cornerstone Academy lost against Countryside Christian back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cornerstone Academy Cougars lost 68-46 to the Countryside Christian Minutemen. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Cornerstone Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jared Owens went 8 of 14 on his way to 23 points. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for Owens. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Whing, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Cornerstone Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Countryside Christian, their win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-1.

Cornerstone Academy and Meadowbrook Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Cornerstone Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season. As for Countryside Christian, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 66-54 loss against Aucilla Christian on the 13th.
