Softball Recap: Wheaton Academy Takes a Loss

Bishop McNamara hit Wheaton Academy with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors came up short against the Fightin' Irish, falling 16-8. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Fightin' Irish recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Reese Dryfhout and Emily From did some serious damage despite the final result: Dryfhout went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while From got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Dryfhout has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Vivian Brummel, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Wheaton Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Bishop McNamara, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheaton Academy will venture away from home to square off against Chicago Hope Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Wheaton Academy is facing Chicago Hope Academy at the right time seeing as Chicago Hope Academy is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Bishop McNamara, they will head out to face off against Aurora Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.33 runs per game on average), something the Fightin' Irish will no doubt try to take advantage of.
