Baseball Recap: Maplesville Comes Up Short

Maplesville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Blocton Tigers. The Red Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Braden Atcheson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two doubles. Aiden Abbott also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Maplesville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for West Blocton, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Maplesville will take on Thorsby at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Maplesville has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for West Blocton, they will challenge Verbena at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Verbena has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.45 runs per game on average), something West Blocton will no doubt try to take advantage of.
