Softball Game Preview: La Mirada Matadores vs. California Condors

The La Mirada Matadores will take on the California Condors at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday. La Mirada is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 14 games.

La Mirada's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Beckman by a score of 3-0.

Meanwhile, California made easy work of Whittier on Thursday and carried off a 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Condors, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Pricilla Ramirez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Mia Martinez was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Gurule, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

La Mirada pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for California, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

La Mirada took their win against California in their previous meeting back in March of 2021 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Matadores since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
