Softball Recap: Wyoming East Victorious

Wyoming East took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Bluefield, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-11 victory over the Beavers on Thursday. Considering the Warriors' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Carli Raye made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-5. That hit was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Victoria Smith was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those runs were her first of the season. Kendra Cook was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Wyoming East's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Bluefield, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, Wyoming East is taking a road trip to face off against PikeView at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bluefield, they will host Princeton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Beavers are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
