Baseball Recap: Arlington Comes Up Short

Arlington had lost five straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-12 to make it six. They came up short against the Elmwood Royals, falling 10-0. If the Red Devils were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Royals when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Elmwood, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-3. Considering they have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Elmwood's part, Cadyn Stewart made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Stewart has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ryken Zeigler and Colton Bradford did most of the damage at the plate: Zeigler got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Bradford got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Bradford a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kason Hammer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Arlington will square off against Leipsic at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Elmwood, they will venture away from home to face off against Van Buren at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Royals 3.4, the Black Knights 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
