Basketball Recap: The Pilgrim Academy Takes Down Gloucester County Christian in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, The Pilgrim Academy rose to the challenge on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 51-36 win over the Gloucester County Christian Conquerors. This was a revenge game for the Pioneers: when they faced off against the Conquerors back in February, they had to take a 58-41 defeat.

Leading The Pilgrim Academy to victory were Mason Parmer and Ayden Miller. Parmer dropped a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Miller almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine assists. Parmer's big performance that afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Jared McGonagle was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: The Pilgrim Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gloucester County Christian only seven assists.

Several Conquerors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Colby James, who shot 41% from the field to rack up 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That was a full 50% of Gloucester County Christian's points, marking the third time in a row James has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Gesin, who put up eight points.

The Pilgrim Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points over those games. Gloucester County Christian is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-19.

As of now, neither The Pilgrim Academy nor Gloucester County Christian have any future games scheduled.
