Basketball Recap: John Paul the Great Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Evan Sonnier and Ezra Mouton

John Paul the Great Academy lost against Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The John Paul the Great Academy Guardians fell 60-48 to Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool. While losing is never fun, the Guardians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 352nd, while Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool are ranked 135th).

Despite the loss, John Paul the Great Academy had strong showings from Ezra Mouton, who went 8 for 16 en route to 16 points and three steals, and Evan Sonnier, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points. Mouton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Louviere, who posted five points.

Leading Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool to victory were Nicholas Savage and Scott Stollstiemer. Savage dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards, while Stollstiemer earned 22 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Savage a new career-high in rebounds. Ethan Brown was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine assists and five steals.

John Paul the Great Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-7.

John Paul the Great Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool, they will be playing at home against NELA Christian Homeschool at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56 points per game this season.
