Basketball Game Preview: Dan River Wildcats vs. Gretna Hawks

The Dan River Wildcats and the Gretna Hawks will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Dan River has struggled recently with eight losses in a row, while Gretna will arrive with three straight wins.

Last Friday, Dan River took a blow against Bassett, falling 52-23. The contest marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

While Gretna didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-35 victory over Appomattox County on Friday.

Dan River better keep an eye on Shakira Jones. She was instrumental in Gretna's win, putting up 19 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least a third of Gretna's points. Another player making a difference was Chinara Miller, who posted ten points.

Gretna pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Dan River, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Dan River was taken down by Gretna 59-22 in their previous matchup back in January. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Dan River was down 41-11.
