Basketball Game Preview: King Mustangs vs. Corpus Christi Moody Trojans

The King Mustangs will take on the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. King is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Last Tuesday, King lost to Gregory-Portland at home by a 54-39 margin. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 946th, while the Wildcats are ranked 438th).

Despite the loss, King had strong showings from Charis Peninger, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 20 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, and Kamila Hernandez, who posted seven points along with six steals and five boards. That was a full 51.3% of King's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Gregory-Portland typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Corpus Christi Moody proved too difficult a challenge. They enjoyed a cozy 51-37 win over the Wildcats. The score was all tied up 17-17 at the break, but the Trojans were the better team in the second half.

Corpus Christi Moody pushed their record up to 21-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.6 points per game. As for King, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-20.

King was dealt a bruising 77-28 loss at the hands of Corpus Christi Moody in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Corpus Christi Moody's Shantaye Hazel, who almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals.
