Softball Recap: Richmond Oilers vs. Vallejo Redhawks

Richmond had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it nine. They lost 23-6 to the Vallejo Redhawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redhawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-8 back in March.

As for Vallejo, their record now sits at 5-6-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the contest before.

For Vallejo's part, Maddie Melgoza made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over 4.1 innings pitched. Melgoza has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those five runs gave her a new career-high.
