Basketball Recap: Gates County Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Gates County had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pasquotank County Panthers on Tuesday. The Red Barons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Branden Smith had a dynamite game For Pasquotank County., shooting 56% from the field to rack up 22 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Smith is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Trey Barnes, who posted four points along with 11 boards and three blocks.

While Gates County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
