Basketball Recap: Evangelical Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Quez Outten and Drew Irwin

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Evangelical Christian can now relate to. They fell 70-58 to the Canterbury Cougars on Monday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 65-62 last Friday.

Drew Irwin and Quez Outten certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Irwin dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards, while Outten posted 15 points and six rebounds. Evangelical Christian is 3-1 when Irwin posts eight or more boards, but 10-12 otherwise. David Morris was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Evangelical Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Canterbury's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyle Scharlau led the charge by posting 17 points. The dominant performance gave Scharlau a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlisle Barker, who put up 16 points.

Evangelical Christian's record now sits at 13-13. As for Canterbury, their victory bumped their record up to 9-16.

Evangelical Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Canterbury, they have already played their next game, a 74-63 loss against First Baptist Academy on the 5th.
