Basketball Recap: Sam Gooch Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Marshall

Greencastle won the last time they faced Marshall and things went their way on Thursday too. The Greencastle Tiger Cubs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 45-42 victory over the Marshall Lions.

Greencastle's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sam Gooch led the charge by putting up 14 points and five rebounds. Taygan McRoberts was another key player, posting eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Greencastle is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Marshall, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-3.

Greencastle won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Terre Haute North Vigo at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Terre Haute North Vigo will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Greencastle surely won't give up without a fight. As for Marshall, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Altamont at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
