Preview: Woodside Wildcats vs. Carlmont Scots

Two dominant backs in Evan Usher and Braeden Kumer are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Woodside Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Carlmont Scots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Thursday, everything went Woodside's way against Fremont as Woodside made off with a 35-15 victory. 35 seems to be a good number for Woodside as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Woodside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Usher, who rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Usher is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Furtado, who rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Carlmont on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew El Camino out of the water with a 48-3 final score. With Carlmont ahead 34-3 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Kumer continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 283 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.9 yards per carry. Kumer is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.

Woodside's win pushed their record up to 5-2, while Carlmont's bumped their own up to the opposite: 2-5.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Woodside has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 290 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Carlmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 229.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Woodside ended up a good deal behind Carlmont in their previous meeting back in March of 2021, losing 34-20. Can Woodside avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
