Baseball Recap: Battle Mountain Triumphs

Battle Mountain took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Gunnison, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Husky skirted past the Cowboys 11-10.

Jack Reed was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kia Tipton, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Tipton is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Tony Damici, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Battle Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Battle Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 3-1-1. As for Gunnison, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Coming up, Battle Mountain will take on Summit at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Gunnison, they will square off against Alamosa at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
