The West Jordan Jaguars will venture away from home to challenge the Grantsville Cowboys at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. West Jordan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
West Jordan is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since May 8, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Richfield, sneaking past 9-8. While the Jaguars didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
West Jordan got a great performance from Bryn Gibson as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nick Bryant, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Rowley, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
West Jordan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Grantsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Bountiful, falling 10-4.
Krue Warren made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
The win made it two in a row for West Jordan and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Grantsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
Grantsville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Jordan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. It's a different story for Grantsville, though, as they've only averaged .217. Will they be able to contain West Jordan's hitters?
West Jordan suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Grantsville in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can West Jordan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
