Preview: Stillwater Pioneers vs. Broken Arrow Tigers
The Stillwater Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the Broken Arrow Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Stillwater is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Stillwater escaped with a win against Ponca City by the margin of a single free throw, 49-48. That looming 49-48 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Stillwater yet this season.
Broken Arrow has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 24 points or more this season. They were the clear victor by a 61-37 margin over Ponca City. Given Broken Arrow's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Ponca City is ranked 380th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Broken Arrow's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Macy Marraccini led the charge by scoring 20 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Those seven steals set a new season-high mark for her. McKenzie Mathurin was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Stillwater's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-4. As for Broken Arrow, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Stillwater came up short against Broken Arrow when the teams last played back in December of 2018, falling 77-68. Can Stillwater avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
