Wakefield faced Broughton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Capitals with a sharp 26-0 win. Give the Wolverines' defense some credit: that's the team's sixth straight shutout.

Wakefield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sara Barlett led the charge by rushing for 62 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, while also catching one TD. Maddy Tegen was another key player, gaining 68 total yards and a touchdown.

Wakefield didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Lyla Bagwell and Gracelyn Capel. Bagwell got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Wakefield's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Broughton, they moved to 4-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Wakefield and Broughton will both be playing Corinth Holders the next time they take the field. The Capitals will head out to face the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Wolverines will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on the 1st.
