Baseball Recap: Sonora Triumphs

Sonora won the last time they faced Esperanza and things went their way on Monday too. The Raiders came out on top against the Aztecs by a score of 4-1.

Robby Blaine spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Sonora is 7-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 9-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Sonora's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ruben Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Garcia a new career-high. Tucker Hunnicutt was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Sonora hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matches.

Sonora's win bumped their record up to 16-11. As for Esperanza, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-17 record this season.

Sonora will have a chance to go back-to-back against Esperanza: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
