Softball Game Preview: San Mateo Bearcats vs. Hillsdale Fighting Knights

San Mateo is 0-10 against Hillsdale since April of 2021 but things could change on Saturday. The Bearcats will challenge the Fighting Knights. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

San Mateo is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Everett Alvarez 2-1. That's two games straight that the Bearcats have won by just one run.

San Mateo's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Alice Han, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Hillsdale waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 2-0 shutout.

Not much got past Lola Jones, who gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Notre Dame off the board. Jones has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

The win made it two in a row for San Mateo and bumps their season record up to 16-9. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Hillsdale, their victory bumped their record up to 18-9-1.

San Mateo might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Hillsdale when the teams last played on May 13th. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
