Softball Recap: Southport Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Southport hadn't done well against Bloomington North recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Cardinals were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Cougars. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

Ady Stansbury made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Stansbury was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Rachel Pfieffer and Natalie Vaeth did most of the damage at the plate: Pfieffer went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Vaeth went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Vaeth has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Lindsey Vaught, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Southport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bloomington North only posted a batting average of .174.

Southport's victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10. As for Bloomington North, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.

Southport and Bloomington North could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Cardinals will take on Terre Haute North Vigo at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (145 vs. 40). Meanwhile, Bloomington North (ranked 203rd) will meet Noblesville (ranked 11th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
