Baseball Recap: Union County Takes a Loss

Union County extended their losing streak to six on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 3-9 in the process. They came up short against the East Central Trojans, falling 14-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on Saturday.

Dalton Creech and Cam Salsbery stepped up to the plate in a big way. Creech went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Salsbery got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Creech has become a key player for Union County: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-8 otherwise.

As for East Central, they now have a winning record of 6-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.

On East Central's side, they let Joel Richter and Cole Reynolds run wild. Richter went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Reynolds went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Reynolds has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Houston, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union County will square off against Lawrenceburg at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Central, they will challenge Rushville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
