Football Recap: Lakewood Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Lakewood scored first but ultimately less than Hobbton in their matchup on Friday. They fell 20-7 to the Wildcats. The Leopards were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Burroughs Strickland threw for 84 yards on seven of 14 attempts. Donovan Smith was his top target, picking up 33 receiving yards. On the ground, Calvin Lacewell Jr rushed for 94 yards.

Hobbton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Reginald Thompson led the charge by rushing for 132 yards and a pair of scores. Thompson's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 102 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Amir Tate, who rushed for 108 yards and one TD on only 12 carries.

This is the second loss in a row for Lakewood and nudges their season record down to 5-4. As for Hobbton, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3.

Lakewood has already played their next game, a 36-0 victory against East Columbus on the 31st. As for Hobbton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 20-14 loss against North Duplin on the 31st.
