Football Recap: Breese Central's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Four + How To Watch

Breese Central entered their tilt with Roxana on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 31-20 win over the Shells. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Shells, too.

Leading Breese Central to victory were Cole Davis and Owen Kehrer. Davis rushed for 130 yards and one touchdown, while Kehrer threw for 151 yards and one TD. Davis also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making ten total tackles (3.0 for loss) and defending one pass. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Login Smith, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Breese Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 236 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 184 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Breese Central, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Smith, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Roxana lost, don't look at Mekhi Shorter. Despite the final result, he rushed for 183 yards and one score on only 13 carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 95 yards.

Breese Central's record is now 6-1. As for Roxana, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Davis and Jase Nelson. Meanwhile, Roxana will challenge rival East Alton-Wood River at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
