Preview: Pacifica Tritons vs. Cajon Cowboys
Pacifica has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Cajon Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Pacifica stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They really took it to Oxnard for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-14 win on the road. Given Pacifica's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Oxnard is ranked 447th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pacifica can attribute much of their success to Dominic Duran, who threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns, and Josh Joyner, who rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns. Duran is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Dillon, who picked up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Cajon fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They managed a 34-30 win over Beaumont on Thursday.
Cajon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamel Sly, who rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Powell, who threw for 257 yards and a touchdown while completing 78.6% of his passes.
Pacifica's win was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Channel Islands and 3-7 Oxnard (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 43.3% over those games). As for Cajon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
