Basketball Recap: New Braunfels Christian Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Avery Shahan and Ellie Schwandt

New Braunfels Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Incarnate Word Academy Angels, falling 54-32. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-6 back in December of 2024.

New Braunfels Christian Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Ellie Schwandt and Avery Shahan. Schwandt posted 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, while Shahan earned six points and 11 boards. That was a full 50% of New Braunfels Christian Academy's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, New Braunfels Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Incarnate Word Academy was led to victory by Abbey Sachanowicz and Bella Taylor. Sachanowicz almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine assists, while Taylor had 11 points and five steals. Those nine assists gave Sachanowicz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Brown, who scored ten points.

New Braunfels Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Incarnate Word Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-15.

New Braunfels Christian Academy has already played their next contest, a 94-13 defeat against Geneva on the 24th. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 38-30 loss against John Paul II on the 24th.
