Basketball Recap: Nelsonville-York Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Nelsonville-York hadn't done well against Trimble recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes blew past the Trimble Tomcats 61-41. Given the Buckeyes' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Tomcats are ranked 308th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nelsonville-York's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Briant Call led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alec Thompson, who went 9 of 18 en route to 19 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

The victory was the third in a row for Nelsonville-York, bringing their record for this year to 5-1. As for Trimble, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Nelsonville-York will host Berne Union at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nelsonville-York is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.8 points per game this season. As for Trimble, they will head out to challenge Belpre at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Belpre knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Trimble likes a good challenge.
