Preview: Union Academy Cardinals vs. Covenant Day Lions
The Union Academy Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Covenant Day Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Union Academy has five straight wins, Covenant Day has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Union Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 41 points or more this season. They really took it to Parkwood for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-21 victory on the road. Given Union Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Parkwood is ranked 412th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ranon Suttle was her usual excellent self, scoring 31 points. The game was her fifth in a row with at least ten points. Jaiden Thompson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Covenant Day was the victim of a tough 64-42 loss at the hands of Piedmont last Friday.
Union Academy pushed their record up to 7-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Covenant Day, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
