Basketball Preview: Millington Central Trojans vs. Brighton Cardinals
Millington Central has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Brighton Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Millington Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully the Cardinals like a good challenge.
In what's become a running theme this season, Millington Central gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They blew past Brighton 72-48. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 14 more assists than your opponent, as Millington Central did.
Millington Central's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Alana Whiten, who scored 18 points, and Bailey Boone, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Boone is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Holmes, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Millington Central pushed their record up to 14-8 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Brighton, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-16 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Millington Central have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Brighton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Millington Central's way against the Cardinals when the teams last played on Thursday as the Trojans made off with a 72-48 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Brighton's Destiny Pruitt, who scored 21 points. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Millington Central still be able to contain Pruitt? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
