Baseball Recap: Empire Takes a Loss

Empire fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Tombstone on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tombstone Yellow Jackets. The Ravens were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Yellow Jackets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Evan Walker was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Zackary Breinlinger was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Empire has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. Tombstone pushed their record up to 9-3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Empire will head out to take on Sahuarita at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Empire is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Tombstone, they will be playing at home against Desert Christian at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Tombstone's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Desert Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
