Football Recap: Golden West Starts off Right with Win over Arroyo Grande

Golden West gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the Arroyo Grande Eagles by a score of 35-28. For the Trailblazers, this counts as revenge for the 44-37 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Jayden Najera had a dynamite game, throwing for 248 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 121 yards and one TD. Those 121 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

When it comes to explaining why Arroyo Grande lost, don't look at Zack Tayman. Despite the final result, he rushed for 143 yards and a pair of scores. Caleb Clark got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Golden West is headed away from home for the first time to take on Dinuba at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Arroyo Grande, they will challenge Newbury Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
