Softball Recap: Switzerland County Pacers vs. South Ripley Raiders

Switzerland County is still looking for their season's first win. They lost 16-6 to the South Ripley Raiders on Wednesday. Switzerland County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as South Ripley apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Megan Wetzel was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayley Adams, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two RBI.

On South Ripley's side, they got a great performance from Ellie Combs as she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Combs has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Julia Hilton was a standout: she scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Sara Cremades, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Switzerland County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-14. As for South Ripley, their win bumped their record up to 3-9.

Switzerland County is on the road again on Friday to play Rising Sun at 5:00 p.m. Rising Sun is coming into the game with eight straight victories at home, so Switzerland County will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for South Ripley, they will head out on the road to challenge New Washington at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. South Ripley has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
