Basketball Recap: Kearney Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jacob Webber and Ben Johnson

Kearney was the 51-42 winner over Westview when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Kearney Bearcats took a 59-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westview Wolverines on Friday. The match marked the Bearcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Kearney's loss came despite strong showings from Ben Johnson and Jacob Webber. Johnson went 8-for-12 en route to 22 points and seven rebounds, while Webber went 9-for-19 on his way to 23 points and six boards. Webber's evening made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points.

Westview had a senior duo take command as John Sims IV went 6-for-9 to rack up 19 points in addition to seven boards and three steals and Amir Martin posted 18 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Tayvin Zephier-Murphy, who scored eight points and seven rebounds.

Kearney's loss dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Westview, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season.

As of now, neither Kearney nor Westview have any future games scheduled.
