After a string of three wins, Fairhope's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to the University Cougars. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Pirates came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 16th in Alabama, while the Cougars are ranked 67th in Florida).

Leading University to victory were Mo Kamara and Hudson Maurer. Kamara went 10 of 13 on his way to 23 points and six rebounds, while Maurer posted 14 points along with six boards and three steals. Maurer is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Hubbard, who had five points and five boards.

Fairhope's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for University, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Fairhope didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 80-41 win against Harrison Central on the 28th. As for University, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-49 victory against West Florida on the 28th.
