No. 2 Westlake (Austin, Texas) dismantled No. 7 Katy (Texas) 45-14 on Saturday in a UIL 6A-Division II semifinal, scoring early and often to hand the 14-1 Tigers their worst postseason loss.

Cade Klubnik led the Chaparrals' surgical offensive attack with more than 300 yards passing and five touchdowns while Jack Kayser added 141 yards rushing on 17 carries and another score.

And while Westlake's job isn't done, the Chaps appear to be on a quest. A quest to send Todd Dodge off with his seventh state championship. A quest for their third straight UIL state title. And a quest, perhaps, to make a case that they are worthy of the MaxPreps National Champion crown.

And they certainly presented a great argument as Klubnik led and offense that was quick-hitting, efficient and overwhelming coupled with a smothering defense.

Westlake (15-0) scored on each of its first six possessions, including all five in the first half. And in true Chaparral fashion, those scoring drives were speedy and lethal.

Kayser started the scoring for Westlake on its first possession — and his first touch — going 47 yards on the uptempo drive's fifth play for the early 7-0 lead.

And while the offense put up video game numbers all day, the defense was as ferocious as the offense was effective, making their mark on the Tigers' second drive. As Caleb Koger rolled left on second-and-5, Colton Vasek blasted the Tigers' junior, dislodging the ball as Byers Petty came up with the fumble. And with the short field, Klubnik wasted no time in finding Pierce Turner on a 37-yard scoring pass late in the first quarter.

After a 24-yard field goal and Klubnik-to-Jaden Greathouse 18-yard TD pass, Katy felt it had to find an answer, but was stuffed on fourth-and-inches midway through the second quarter on their own 34.

Westlake used the short field to boost the score to 31-0 as Keaton Kubecka caught the first of his two touchdowns in the game.

Coming out of half, Klubnik added his fifth touchdown pass of the night — bringing him within one of Sam Erhlinger's school record — on a 9-yard strike to Greathouse.

Greathouse finished with 83 yards on six catches and two scores Turner added 105 yards with one TD and Kubecka scored twice with 78 yards receiving.

The Tigers finally got on the scoreboard late in the third quarter, mounting a seven-play, 75-yard drive capped up a 50-yard Kroger pass to Nic Anderson. The pair later hooked up for a 31-yard touchdown to make the score 45-14, and giving the Oklahoma-bound receiver 139 yards for the game.

The Chaparrals now await the Guyer-Tomball winner for the Dec. 18 state finals.
