Softball Game Preview: McDonald Blue Devils vs. Ursuline Fighting Irish

The McDonald Blue Devils will head out to face off against the Ursuline Fighting Irish at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (McDonald has four straight victories, Ursuline has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

McDonald's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Mineral Ridge.

Not much got past Aubrey Evans, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Mineral Ridge off the board. Evans has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, McDonald's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Miley Titus, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Ursuline's offense. They came up short against South Range on Monday, falling 17-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Fighting Irish were not able to get on the board.

Eva Camuso was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Kennedy, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

McDonald's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ursuline, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.

McDonald suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Ursuline when the teams last played back in March of 2021. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
