Softball Recap: Pioneer Takes a Loss

Lincoln hit Pioneer with a four-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-4 back in March.

Gina Scripoch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Leilah Ortiz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Pioneer's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Lincoln, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-7.

Pioneer wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 13-1 defeat against Live Oak on the 12th. As for Lincoln, they have also already played their next match, an 18-1 victory against Hill on the 12th.
