Baseball Recap: Bruce's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Bruce had lost 13 straight, but after bumping their record up to 3-16 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Houlka Wildcats 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Wildcats back in February, they had to take a 14-8 defeat.

Coby Necaise was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Necaise was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base.

Necaise wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jonathan Plunk, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That's the most hits Plunk has posted since back in February.

As for Houlka, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Houlka's side, Paxton Graves was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one double.

Bruce does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Houlka, they will challenge Tupelo Christian Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season.
