Basketball Recap: Deltona Takes a Loss

Deltona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the DeLand Bulldogs, falling 63-37. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 120th).

Despite the loss, Deltona saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kelsey Assent posted 15 points. That was a full 40.5% of Deltona's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Frantashia Williams, who put up seven points.

Deltona's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for DeLand, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Deltona didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-44 victory against Pine Ridge on the 9th. DeLand has also already played their next contest, a 55-42 loss against Seminole on the 9th.
