Softball Game Preview: Stuarts Draft Cougars vs. Riverheads Gladiators

The Stuarts Draft Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Riverheads Gladiators at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Riverheads will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Stuarts Draft extended their winning streak to five on Monday. The Cougars never let Nelson County get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory.

The result came thanks to Addyson Dameron's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Stuarts Draft got a massive performance out of Karlee Layne, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits Layne has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Lynzie Carson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Riverheads made easy work of Waynesboro on Thursday and carried off a 17-0 win.

Riverheads' victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Stuarts Draft, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.

Everything went Stuarts Draft's way against Riverheads in their previous matchup back in March, as Stuarts Draft made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
