Recap: Maricopa Rams vs. Cesar Chavez Champions

The Maricopa Rams's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their tenth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 84-25 loss at the hands of Cesar Chavez. While losing is never fun, Maricopa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Cesar Chavez is ranked 44th).

Several Rams players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lydia Clark, who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Kylie Gardner , who scored seven points.

Cesar Chavez's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alex Ballard led the charge by scoring 14 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Malia Woodberry, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Maricopa bumped their record down to 1-12 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.0 points per game. As for Cesar Chavez, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.

Maricopa won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Carl Hayden Community at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Carl Hayden Community comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last ten games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Cesar Chavez won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Chandler at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th.
