Softball Game Preview: Kellis Cougars vs. Ironwood Eagles

For the first time this season, Kellis will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will face off against the Ironwood Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Monday, Kellis made easy work of North Canyon and carried off a 15-7 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Cougars' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, Ironwood got the win against North on Monday by a conclusive 14-1.

Alyssa Ridgley was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Monahan, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season. Madelaine Gober was another key player, scoring four runs while going 4-for-5.

Ironwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Ironwood's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-7. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 15 runs. As for Kellis, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Kellis might still be hurting after the 16-3 defeat they got from Ironwood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Kellis avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
