The Gar-Field Red Wolves will face off against the Hylton Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gar-Field has given up an average of 23 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Gar-Field is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 29 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Potomac Senior on Tuesday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 28-1. The loss continues a trend for the Red Wolves in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost three in a row.
Gar-Field saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ariana Biddle, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. Zuniya Chapman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hylton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Gainesville with a sharp 10-3 win on Thursday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Alanis Layne made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. Layne was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexandra Newton, who went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Jayel Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Hylton's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Gar-Field, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gar-Field has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hylton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gar-Field might still be hurting after the 27-0 loss they got from Hylton in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Red Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
