Basketball Recap: Toronto Comes Up Short

Toronto was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Catholic Central Crusaders and fell 64-37. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Knights of the 57-41 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Toronto lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jayna Reeves, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 16 points and seven boards. Reeves is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Tatum Derrington was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Toronto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Toronto's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Catholic Central, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-7.

Toronto wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-22 victory against East Palestine on the 5th. As for Catholic Central, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against River at 4:00 p.m.
