It was a proper cat-fight when New Heights Christian Academy challenged Verona on Thursday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 29-14 margin over the Wildcats. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.
New Heights Christian Academy let KALLIE SPENCER and JADYN DEAN run wild. SPENCER got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases and five runs, while DEAN got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those stolen bases marked the first that SPENCER has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of LILY MOORE, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
New Heights Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .574. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Lockwood got the win against Pierce City on Thursday by a conclusive 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Kallie Griffin made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Reese Whitesell was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Peyton Lasater, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Lockwood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. New Heights Christian Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6.
