Baseball Game Preview: Baxter vs. Riceville Wildcats

Baxter will face off against the Riceville Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Baxter's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Dunkerton by a score of 4-0. While Baxter didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Riceville narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Collins-Maxwell 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Riceville pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Baxter, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.

Baxter couldn't quite get it done against Riceville in their previous meeting back in June of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can Baxter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
