League recap: Northlake Christian wins, gets boost in standings

2A District 8 recap September 24, 2013

Northlake Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in 2A District 8. The Wolverines defeated Pearl River 53-22 earlier in the week.

Archbishop Hannan and De La Salle played the closest game in the league this week, with Archbishop Hannan eventually emerging with a 20-17 victory. Korey Zeigler threw for 67 yards and ran for 41 yards in the win.

Zeigler and Jason Brooks gave the Hawks a balanced attack through the air and ground last week.

Zeigler put up the best numbers through the air as pat lambert's team topped the Cavaliers. Zeigler's favorite target this week was Daniel Hollander, who caught 3 passes for 36 yards.

Logan McGregor was the best wideout in the league this week as Mt. Hermon lost to Crescent City Christian. McGregor tallied 2 receptions for 48 yards.

Brooks was the best running back in 2A District 8 this week. He ran for 40 yards on 12 carries as the Hawks lost to the Pioneers.

5-foot-11 quarterback Zeigler of Archbishop Hannan is the league leader in passing yards this season with 229. He has also thrown 3 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is McGregor. The Mt. Hermon star has 5 catches for 115 yards.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Hawks and Pine face off next week.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Archbishop Hannan takes on the Raiders. As it stands, the Hawks are in second, while Pine is in fourth.

There should be lots of points scored when Archbishop Hannan and Bradley Seal's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Hawks comes in having scored 80 this season, while the Raiders have scored 80. Archbishop Hannan scored 20 points last week as it beat De La Salle.

Northlake Christian led the league in scoring this week by notching 53 points on the Rebels.
