Softball Recap: St. John's Triumphs

St. John hadn't done well against HCYA recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Mavericks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over HCYA.

Yutia Li was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Avery Peakes was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

St. John's is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for HCYA, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-8-4.

Looking ahead, St. John's will square off against Kinkaid at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for HCYA, they will venture away from home to square off against Lutheran South Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pioneers will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something HCYA surely won't give up without a fight.
