Baseball Recap: Whiteland Victorious

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Whiteland and Greenwood, and Whiteland kept the tradition alive. The Warriors walked away with a 6-3 win over the Woodmen on Monday. The Warriors have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Woodmen, too.

Peyton Wingfield tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Blake Riddle was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-2. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Peyton Dickens, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Whiteland's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Greenwood, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whiteland will take on Indian Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Greenwood, they will challenge Franklin Community at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
